The revival of a legend

Derenivska Kupil has a long history and is shrouded in mysterious legends.

We learn about this today from letters, notes, graphic drawings, archival documents, ethnographic funds, and private collections. The materials show the chronology of the history of the Derenivka tract, tell about people who rested and were treated here, and also confirm the healing properties of the “Slatina Golden Water”.

The first documented mention dates back to 1582. From it we learn that Miklós Korlat, a magnate from the village of Chlmec, is suing the Druget family for the right to own forests and a medicinal bath in the Derenivka tract, numerous written references to which date back to the 17th century.

Starting from December 19, 1634, the local priest Daniil Serednyanskyi in his letters calls the bathhouse "Zhalobny Derentse", "Derentsa zholoboborniya", "Derentsa serebernaya vaserovna", thus confirming its healing properties.

In the monuments of the Habsburg dynasty, which date back to 1692, the Deren water is mentioned as "Derenus Zilbers wasser." This is the name indicated on the ancient coat of arms of the bath.

During the war of 1705 between the Transylvanian prince Ferenc II Rákóczi and the Habsburgs, "Slatino" (as the resort was called) was completely destroyed. But the life-giving water was so desirable that the bathhouse was quickly rebuilt.

The 1829 graphic with the caption "Derenovska bathhouse, swamp, herbalist N. Slatino" confirms the history of the resort, and the letters mentioning the bathhouse ("Solotvinska health resort", "Zolotvina bathing swamp", "Silver bathhouse", "Slatinska zlata voditsa") testify to the healing properties of Derenovska water.

In 1935, scientist František Wisner, in his study “Mineral Springs of Subcarpathian Rus’,” wrote about Derenov water: “As a scientist, I have the honor to personally recommend it for consumption to both local residents and all citizens of the Czechoslovak Republic.” In Soviet times, there was a sanatorium of the Union subordination “Kooperator” on the territory of the tract, where people came from all over the USSR.

Today, before our eyes, the former glory of Derenivka is being revived and a new life is raging. For four centuries, it was part of six states, changing its architecture and infrastructure. However, its eternal values remained unchanged: ecologically clean space and healing water. By the way, there is also an interesting fact: where does the name "Derenivka" come from? Once upon a time, dogwood - "deren" grew on the territory of the tract. Hence the name!

modern history

Now the wellness resort has received a new life. Hotels and restaurants, SPA areas and active recreation areas have appeared. There is a place for both business and art, and around it is a luxurious botanical garden and a unique sculpture park. In general, the architecture of the constructed buildings was determined by the history of this cultural place - it is the Austro-Hungarian style. The total area of the wellness resort is 20 hectares, in addition to the recreation area, it includes a mineral water plant, greenhouses and gardens where environmentally friendly products are grown for guests. By the way, the fish on the table is also their own. During the reconstruction, the riverbed was restored, a cascade of lakes was created, where carp and trout are grown, and sturgeon are planned.

When creating the complex, great attention was paid to the ecological component and the use of new energy-saving technologies. For example, the SPA complex uses heat pumps that remove excess heat from 43-degree thermal water, cooling it to the optimal 32-34C, and the difference is used to heat the pool.

The food unit freezer recovery system is looped to heat the indoor pool and warm water for the hotel. It is planned to expand the use of solar energy. Currently, the complex has a small 300 kW power plant.
