“The Abduction of Europe”

The plot of the sculpture “The Abduction of Europa” by Mykola Bilik is based on the ancient Greek myth of the abduction of the daughter of the Phoenician king Europa by the god Zeus, who, having fallen in love with the girl, turned into a snow-white bull and carried her across the sea to the island of Crete. In art, this story traditionally symbolizes love, unity, and the beginning of a new life.

Created in 2013 from limestone specifically for the complex, the sculpture exists in a single copy.
In Bilyk's interpretation, the images are merged into a dynamic composition, where a moment of movement and tension is palpable. The plasticity of the animal's volume and the tenderness of the female figure form a harmonious whole, conveying both the romantic and dramatic nature of the myth. The texture of the limestone emphasizes the naturalness and at the same time the monumentality of the image.

The work combines echoes of ancient tradition with modern conciseness of forms, creating an image in which classical symbolism takes on a fresh and expressive sound.
