“Morning of the Universe”

In the 1990s, the composition “Morning of the Universe” was created in the workshop of Mykola Bilyk, and it was presented at the First Lviv International Exhibition “Renaissance” in 1991, where it won an award and high praise from experts. The original is currently kept in the Lviv Museum of Modern Art, and a monumentalized version, made in 2013 from granite and bronze, adorns the “Derenivska Kupel” sculpture park.

The artistic language of the work is built on the contrast of massive form and miniature detail.
The tiny figure of a child sitting on the edge of the mighty horns of a giant bull appears as a small part of the majestic world order, full of wonder at its grandeur and perfection.

This is a metaphorical work in which the viewer finds himself captivated by the imagination, similar to the poetics of Exupery: the boy on the ox horns is perceived as a dreamer, whom the Universe raises to the stars. According to the author's idea, the granite figure of the bull, in which great energy and hidden forces are hidden, symbolizes our planet - the Earth. The horns, cast from bronze and curved in the shape of a new moon, metaphorically personify the mysterious cosmos: boundless and unknowable. The figure of the child is assigned the role of a symbol of Man - a small, but integral component of the Universe.

The combination of granite and bronze gives the sculpture a sense of imperturbable calm, in which deep strength and life-affirming energy are hidden.

"Morning of the Universe" can be considered a vivid example of how sculptural power is combined with the tenderness of a poetic image.
