“Carpathian Easter Egg”

“Prykarpatska pysanka” by Ivan Bodnar is a metal sculpture in the shape of an egg, which reinterprets one of the deepest symbols of Ukrainian culture – the pysanka. Made of metal, it combines the precision of blacksmithing and the elegance of traditional ornamentation. The pysanka demonstrates a balance between the massiveness of the material and its openwork: the metal form, which could look heavy and dull, turns into a lacy shell.

The symbolism is deeply rooted in Ukrainian tradition: the egg, as a symbol of the birth of life and the eternal cycle of nature. In the Carpathian region, the Easter egg was not just a festive attribute, but a sacred amulet. The ornaments on it often encoded wishes for well-being, protection, and harmony.

"Prykarpatska pysanka" reminds us of the strength of culture - like this pysanka, it can survive time, preserving its beauty and meaning.
