"Awakening"

audio guide

Vasyl Yarych's sculpture "Awakening" is a generalized female image embodied in bronze. All attention is focused on the plasticity of the body. Smooth, harmonious lines create a feeling of peace, and the tilt of the head - a moment of deep breathing, as if after a long sleep.

Bronze adds expressiveness to the form, and the play of light on the surface enhances the vivid feeling of awakening.

The image of the sculpture echoes the ancient Venuses. In the European tradition, Venus or Aphrodite in Greek mythology is the goddess of love, beauty and the birth of life. Her images in sculpture have always gone beyond the boundaries of a simple female figure - they were symbols of the harmony of nature and man, the personification of ideal beauty and the creative power of being. In classical art, Venus was often depicted naked, emphasizing the naturalness and originality of the feminine principle. This is exactly what we see in Yarych's work: the figure is devoid of everything that could distract from the main idea - the harmony of form and internal energy.

Thus, Yarych does not simply quote the ancient canon, but modernizes it. He leaves the same foundations - the harmony of proportions, the idea of female beauty as a force of creation, but invests it with a new meaning: the awakening not only of the body, but also of consciousness and inner light.
