Awakening

"Awakening" is a limestone sculpture in which Oleksandr Sukholit addresses the theme of renewal and harmony between man and nature.

A female figure with long hair appears before the viewer. The figure stretches upwards, forming a spiral-like movement, while strands of thick braids fall downwards, as if rooting the image into the ground. There is a moment of leisurely awakening: it opens towards the light, slowly filling with the energy of the sun. The hair is likened to the trunk of a perennial plant, emphasizing the inextricable connection of man with nature.

The image is associated with spring as a symbol of awakening, purification, and new beginnings. In various cultural traditions, this period is interpreted as a time of spiritual transformation.

In particular, the holiday of Ivan Kupala, which embodies the transition from darkness to light. On this night, according to beliefs, nature becomes spiritualized, and man, uniting with it, is able to awaken wisdom and find harmony.

Thus, the female body in sculpture metaphorically represents the awakening of both nature in spring and the spiritual growth of man.
