“Stone Monument”

"Stone Monument" by Peter Antip is a monumental sculpture that embodies the author's philosophical vision of history as a gradual ascent from chaos to order, from darkness to light. Created in 2003, it combines archaic motifs and modern plastic language.

The composition is built on the principle of the Zbruchansky idol of the 9th century: a vertical structure, symbolizing the movement from the earthly to the heavenly. The lower level is a cubic granite foundation, the personification of the foundation of the world. Next is a parallelepiped “torso” made of bronze, which conveys inert, amorphous matter. The composition is completed by an oval “head” — a sign of thinking matter, the pinnacle of evolution and spiritual development.
The laconicism of forms, the clarity of proportions and the absence of any unnecessary details give the work a special expressiveness. Petro Antip himself defines this work as "modern archaic" - a kind of stone woman of the 21st century. In the culture of our ancestors, they were considered a receptacle for souls, and their presence in space had a sacred meaning.

Antip interprets this ancient image in a modern way, transforming the "Stone Monument" into a sign of the continuity of time and spiritual continuity.
