“Descendant of Heroes”

"Descendant of Heroes" is a sculpture by Oleg Kapustyak, part of a series of male torsos initiated by the artist during a sculpture symposium in Gurzuf in 2007.

The sculpture is a massive male torso without a head or limbs. It refers to the traditions of classical sculpture, but rethinks the image of the human body in a modern way.

In classical art, these images embodied the ideals of beauty, strength, and valor. Kapustyak, on the other hand, does not seek to recreate a perfect canon, but only refers to the ancient tradition, emphasizing its spiritual ideality. The material becomes a meaningful carrier: the power of granite is identified with the courage and endurance of man.

In the modern context, the work takes on a new meaning. "The Descendant of Heroes" appears not only as an allusion to the ancient ideal, but also as a reflection on the heroism of today. A hero today is not a mythical demigod, but a person capable of self-sacrifice, help, and responsibility. He is someone who supports his neighbor, saves, rebuilds, and carries humanistic values.

Thus, Kapustyak enters into a dialogue with the masters of the past, but shifts the emphasis from external perfection to internal content. The sculpture speaks: the true strength of a person is not in the ideal proportions of the body, but in the steadfastness of the spirit, in the ability to preserve moral principles and pass them on, as a legacy from generations of heroes.
