“Amazon with a child”

The sculpture “Amazon with a Child” by Peter Antip depicts the figure of an Amazon made of clear geometric shapes: the body is formed by triangles and cones, the arms and legs are narrow cylindrical elements, the head is oval in shape, crowned with a large triangular headdress. In her hand, the Amazon holds a bow, drawn in a gesture of readiness to shoot. At the level of the hips, there is a smaller figure - a “child” holding a spear.

The simplicity of the forms and the lack of detail of the face create the effect of an archetypal image, and the open pose with a drawn bow gives the work tension and dynamics. Triangles, straight lines and planes here resemble the schemes of rock paintings or ancient symbols. Antip skillfully combines simple volumes into a coherent and expressive silhouette.

The bronze surface has a soft patina that adds historical depth and creates a sense of “a find from the past.” Even without facial expressions and details, the figures convey character: determination and inner focus.

The Amazons in ancient Greek mythology were a tribe of warrior women who lived in a segregated, matriarchal state. The Amazons were renowned for their bravery and skill with weapons.

The work feels the contrast between strength and tenderness. The mother is ready for battle, protecting her child. This image emphasizes the universal idea of feminine nature, in which the warrior and the protector coexist inseparably. The Amazon appears not only as a symbol of physical strength and courage, but also as the embodiment of inner wisdom, self-sacrifice and love. The sculpture reminds us that true power is born precisely from care and responsibility.
